Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural evolution of core Elasticsearch storage engine components.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts, serialization formats, and resource utilization.
- Improve storage efficiency, ES|QL query processing and performance, and data layouts for object storage.
- Lead cross-organizational initiatives supporting observability solutions and Elasticsearch logs and metrics capabilities.
- Drive operational and system improvements, coding standards, and architectural clarity across the platform.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted technical advisor while mentoring the wider engineering organization.
- Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests with global engineering teams.
- Write idiomatic modern Java for Elasticsearch.
Requirements
- Strong core Java skills, including deep knowledge of concurrency primitives and the ability to design and optimize efficient data structures and algorithms.
- Experience implementing techniques to efficiently index, store, and query time-series or logs data.
- Experience with one or more storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
- Ability to collaborate across functions and teams, work autonomously, and drive decisions in a distributed environment.
- Proven experience using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while validating results and owning outcomes.
- Strong collaboration, technical discussion, communication, and mentoring skills.
- Preferred experience building with Elasticsearch, contributing to open-source projects, and working with source-control workflows and continuous integration.
- Preferred experience designing and owning cross-functional initiatives and developing database, search engine, operating system, or cloud services.
