Base Salary
$160k - $270k/yr
Responsibilities
- Evolve the WebSocket infrastructure supporting live interviews, including connection lifecycle, session state, message routing, backpressure, and reconnection.
- Build and improve the low-latency speech-to-text pipeline from incoming audio to accurate transcripts.
- Scale real-time systems from thousands to tens of thousands of simultaneous sessions.
- Own reliability, uptime, observability, and graceful degradation for live voice systems.
- Define technical strategy and ship end-to-end features for the interview platform in collaboration with the founding team.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, preferably including end-to-end feature ownership in a startup or fast-paced environment.
- Production experience shipping user-facing real-time systems using WebSockets, WebRTC, streaming media, or multiplayer technologies.
- Experience with audio pipelines, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, voice agents, latency budgets, buffering, codecs, and conversational turn-taking.
- Strong backend development skills with Node, TypeScript, or similar technologies, including reliable and observable services and APIs.
- Proficiency with frontend technologies, ideally React, and the ability to build responsive live interfaces.
- Fluency with AI models and agentic coding tools, including building real-time experiences around LLMs.
- Preferred experience building production voice AI or conversational agents, working with Deepgram or AssemblyAI, building desktop applications with Electron or Tauri, or using in-browser audio capabilities.
- Ability to work independently, communicate proactively, make architecture decisions, and defend implementation choices in code review.
