Base Salary

$130k - $170k/yr

Responsibilities

Design and implement distributed backend systems capable of processing billions of monthly events.
Develop scalable ingestion and processing frameworks using Kafka, ClickHouse, and Snowflake while maintaining data quality and schema governance.
Optimize Aurora, Cloud SQL, and PostgreSQL databases for low latency and high availability.
Define engineering practices for code quality, automation, monitoring, and release management.
Guide engineers through architectural decisions, conduct design reviews, and mentor the team.
Design scalable and cost-efficient cloud infrastructure on AWS and GCP.
Collaborate with Product Managers and Data teams to assess feasibility, define milestones, and deliver roadmap goals.
Improve observability and reliability through alerting, tracing, and SLO/SLA dashboards.

8+ years of backend development experience.
3+ years of experience in a technical leadership or architecture role.
Deep expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and data-intensive applications.
Strong proficiency in at least one of Node.js, Python, Go, or Java.
Hands-on experience with Kafka, ClickHouse, Snowflake, and relational databases.
Experience scaling systems on AWS or GCP.
Strong communication, mentorship, and problem-solving skills.
Adaptability, execution focus, and willingness to remain hands-on in a startup environment.

Hybrid work with 4 days per week in the Toronto office.
Downtown Toronto office location.
