Responsibilities
- Own project-level architecture for complex, stateful calibration workflows while remaining hands-on.
- Build full-stack services spanning concurrent hardware-control loops, distributed services, and operator-facing user interfaces.
- Research, design, implement, validate, document, and optimize numerical, computer-vision, and real-time image-processing algorithms.
- Apply data-science methods to measurement data by designing experiments, analyzing results, and quantifying system performance.
- Build AI-specific infrastructure for physics-informed software development, including agents, tools, context, and evaluation pipelines.
- Develop hardware simulation and monitoring tools for algorithm development and automated testing.
- Collaborate with physicists, Product, Design, and R&D teams to validate workflows and ship solutions.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software-development experience.
- At least 2 years of R&D experience in algorithms or machine learning, including end-to-end ownership of meaningful features and projects.
- Deep expertise in concurrency, parallelism, multithreaded dispatchers, failure modes, tradeoffs, and performance under load.
- Strong system-design experience with microservices, distributed systems, APIs, message queues, or event streaming.
- Knowledge of numerical algorithms, optimization, image processing, hardware control, or instrumentation software.
- Hands-on experience building with LLMs and agents, including prompt and context engineering, tool calling, retrieval, and evaluation.
- Experience with end-to-end, regression, and automated testing, code review, CI/CD, virtualization, and Docker.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, computational physics or applied mathematics experience, image processing, optics, microscopy, signal processing, numerical analysis, electron microscopy, semiconductor equipment, performance optimization, or concurrency experience in C++, Java, Kotlin, Go, or Rust.
- A record of academic, military, or professional honors, awards, or other recognition for outstanding achievement is a plus.
