Responsibilities
- Research existing vulnerabilities and discover new vulnerabilities.
- Develop detection scripts for Tenable sensors, including the Nessus vulnerability scanner, based on research findings.
- Research and develop detection methods for services and products from different vendors.
- Implement advanced detection logic while minimizing false positives and false negatives.
- Participate in detection logic discussions and research new detection methods.
- Interface with stakeholders to externalize research outcomes.
- Work on complex research and development initiatives.
- Help and train other researchers when needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- At least 3–5 years of development or R&D experience.
- Strong programming skills in one or more languages, particularly C and/or Python.
- Experience with multiple operating systems, with proficiency in Linux required.
- Ability to showcase original research through blogs, white papers, or similar external publications.
- Understanding of networking, the TCP/IP stack, common vulnerabilities, CVSS scoring, vulnerability classification, detection, and exploitation techniques is preferred.
- Expertise with protocols such as HTTP, DNS, SSH, and SMB is preferred.
- Experience with penetration testing, vulnerability research, discovery, or publication is preferred.
- A security-related certification such as OSCP is preferred.
- Experience with systems administration and command-line environments is preferred.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipeline technologies and concepts is preferred.
- Proficiency with SQL and Snowflake is preferred.
- Experience rigorously testing software and developing tools and test plans for complicated software is preferred.
- Experience with Tenable products such as Nessus, Tenable.io, and SecurityCenter is preferred.
