Responsibilities
- Design and build production search and recommendation architecture covering retrieval, ranking, reranking, vector search, semantic retrieval, and LLM or managed rerankers.
- Establish production baselines using prompts, RAG, model selection, and off-the-shelf components before pursuing custom ML.
- Build offline and online evaluation, observability, A/B testing, monitoring, and position-bias handling into retrieval and ranking systems.
- Create data and event feedback loops that support iteration and future machine-learning improvements.
- Improve relevance and ranking quality for patient-facing products.
- Own production quality, including latency, reliability, monitoring, data quality, and maintainability.
- Partner with ML Engineers, product managers, and software engineers to define, build, and ship AI-powered features.
Requirements
- Significant experience as a Software Engineer and/or AI Engineer shipping search or recommendation systems to production.
- Ability to deploy algorithms to production through an ECS-based service on AWS.
- Hands-on experience building end-to-end retrieval, ranking, and reranking pipelines.
- Familiarity with nDCG, MAP, Recall@k, MRR, embeddings, vector search, semantic retrieval, RAG, and LLM-based or managed rerankers such as Vertex AI.
- Experience building reliable, low-latency production services with hundreds-of-milliseconds SLAs.
- Strong analytical, results-oriented, and patient-focused approach.
- Preferred experience in B2C marketplaces, pattern mining, recommendation systems, experimentation, causal inference, search engines, information retrieval, learning-to-rank, feature engineering, healthcare, GDPR, or HDS.
