Responsibilities
- Design and build production search and recommendation architecture across retrieval, ranking, and reranking pipelines.
- Use vector search, semantic retrieval, RAG, foundation models, and LLM or managed rerankers to improve patient-facing search relevance.
- Establish baselines, evaluation systems, observability, monitoring, and offline and online measurement at every pipeline stage.
- Create data and event feedback loops that support iteration and future machine-learning improvements.
- Own production quality, including latency, reliability, maintainability, and low-latency service performance.
- Partner with ML Engineers, product managers, and software engineers to define, build, and ship AI-powered features.
Requirements
- Significant experience as a Software Engineer and/or AI Engineer shipping search or recommendation systems to production.
- Ability to deploy algorithms to production using ECS-based services on AWS.
- Hands-on experience building end-to-end retrieval, ranking, and reranking pipelines.
- Familiarity with information-retrieval metrics including nDCG, MAP, Recall@k, and MRR.
- Proficiency turning foundation models and off-the-shelf components into production systems, including embeddings, vector search, semantic retrieval, RAG, and LLM-based or managed rerankers.
- Experience building offline and online evaluations, A/B tests, position-bias handling, monitoring, and data-quality processes.
- Ability to build reliable, maintainable services with latency in the hundreds-of-milliseconds range.
- Experience in a B2C marketplace, search engines, learning-to-rank, feature engineering, experimentation, causal inference, recommendation systems, pattern mining, healthcare, or regulated domains such as GDPR/HDS is preferred.
