Responsibilities
- Design and build production search and recommendation architecture covering retrieval, ranking, and reranking pipelines.
- Use vector search, semantic retrieval, LLM-based or managed rerankers, prompts, RAG, and model selection to establish strong production baselines.
- Build offline and online evaluation, observability, monitoring, A/B testing, and position-bias handling into retrieval and ranking systems.
- Create data and event feedback loops that support iteration and future machine-learning improvements.
- Improve search relevance and ranking for patient-facing products.
- Own production quality, including latency, reliability, monitoring, data quality, and maintainability.
- Partner with ML Engineers and collaborate with product managers and software engineers to define, build, and ship AI-powered features.
Requirements
- Significant experience as a Software Engineer and/or AI Engineer shipping search or recommendation systems to production.
- Ability to deploy algorithms to production, including ECS-based services on AWS.
- Hands-on experience building end-to-end retrieval, ranking, and reranking pipelines.
- Familiarity with nDCG, MAP, Recall@k, and MRR.
- Proficiency turning foundation models and off-the-shelf components into production systems using embeddings, vector search, semantic retrieval, RAG, and LLM-based or managed rerankers.
- Experience building evaluation and observability across retrieval, ranking, and reranking stages, including offline and online evaluation, A/B testing, position-bias handling, and monitoring.
- Ability to ship reliable, low-latency services with hundreds-of-milliseconds SLAs and maintain strong data quality.
- Preferred experience in B2C marketplaces such as e-commerce, hospitality, or travel.
- Preferred experience with pattern mining, recommendation systems, experimentation, or causal inference.
- Preferred experience with search engines, information retrieval, learning-to-rank, or feature engineering.
- Preferred experience in healthcare or another regulated domain, including GDPR or HDS environments.
