Responsibilities
- Design and build production search and recommendation architecture covering retrieval, ranking, and reranking pipelines.
- Use vector search, semantic retrieval, prompts, RAG, foundation models, and LLM-based or managed rerankers to establish effective production baselines.
- Build offline and online evaluation, observability, monitoring, A/B testing, and position-bias handling into the retrieval and ranking systems.
- Create data and event feedback loops to drive iteration and support future machine-learning improvements.
- Improve search relevance and ranking for patient-facing products.
- Own production quality, including latency, reliability, monitoring, data quality, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with ML Engineers, product managers, and software engineers to define, build, and ship AI-powered features.
Requirements
- Significant experience as a software and/or AI engineer shipping search or recommendation systems to production.
- Ability to deploy algorithms to production through an ECS-based service on AWS.
- Hands-on experience building end-to-end retrieval, ranking, and reranking pipelines.
- Familiarity with nDCG, MAP, Recall@k, and MRR evaluation metrics.
- Experience using embeddings, vector search, semantic retrieval, RAG, and LLM-based or managed rerankers such as Vertex AI.
- Experience building reliable, low-latency production services with hundreds-of-milliseconds service-level agreements.
- Preferred experience in a B2C marketplace such as e-commerce, hospitality, or travel.
- Preferred knowledge of pattern mining, recommendation systems, experimentation, causal inference, search engines, information retrieval, learning-to-rank, or feature engineering.
- Healthcare or other regulated-domain experience, including GDPR or HDS, is preferred.
