Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture, rapid prototyping, and productization of machine-learning-based auto-focus algorithms.
- Drive the long-term machine-learning roadmap for auto-focus and design novel learning-based systems for Apple camera platforms.
- Define methods and procedures for complex projects while leading cross-functional work to deploy enhanced auto-focus features.
- Coordinate sub-teams developing architecture, training, and tooling for machine-learning-based auto-focus development.
- Partner with SOC architecture, hardware, and firmware teams on silicon design, camera components, and system-level algorithm optimization.
- Mentor team members and represent the auto-focus area in cross-functional initiatives.
Requirements
- Minimum MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience defining and curating datasets for machine-learning network training on low-level vision tasks, including data augmentation strategies.
- Expertise with modern machine-learning frameworks and libraries, specifically PyTorch or TensorFlow/TFLite/LiteRT.
- Strong software engineering and architectural skills with advanced coding ability in Python and C.
- Preferred experience applying machine learning to auto-focus, stereo disparity or depth, depth estimation, defocus or blur estimation, optical flow estimation, or sensor fusion.
- Preferred experience defining datasets for temporal-network training.
- Preferred knowledge of optics and image-quality metrics such as Point Spread Functions, Depth-of-Field, Modulation Transfer Function, Spatial Frequency Response, Acutance, and blur or defocus estimation.
- Preferred record of innovation demonstrated through publications at computer-vision conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, or ECCV, and/or patents.
