Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain firmware running on Novanta products.
- Implement new product features, including feedback interfaces, communication protocols, and motion-control algorithms.
- Participate in new product development and collaborate with hardware engineers.
- Develop and maintain continuous integration/development libraries.
- Test and debug firmware to meet product specifications.
- Review and improve external and internal technical documentation.
- Provide occasional customer support and assist with installations through domestic and international travel.
Requirements
- Bachelor-level degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience.
- Proficiency in C, including development in resource-constrained embedded environments.
- Knowledge of software design and maintainability fundamentals.
- Experience with bare-metal microprocessor development under real-time constraints.
- Experience with MCU peripherals including I2C, SPI, CAN, USB, UART, and GPIO.
- Ability to understand schematics, datasheets, and application notes.
- Experience using laboratory instruments and version control software.
- Fluent written and spoken English and Spanish.
- Preferred: knowledge of C++ and/or Python, object-oriented programming, hardware board bring-up, system debugging, code optimization, software testing procedures, RTOS, FSoE, MISRA, motion control, and CANopen.
