Responsibilities
- Design, build, and ship features for large-scale distributed database systems.
- Develop client libraries, high-performance proxy services, control planes, and database core engine components.
- Operate distributed datastores in production and support their health and reliability.
- Investigate live production issues and collaborate with SRE and operations teams on resolution.
- Contribute to open-source projects and help influence the direction of the database platform.
- Apply expertise in data replication, compaction, partitioning, observability, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- At least 4 years of software engineering experience.
- Experience building and operating distributed databases or storage systems at scale.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems fundamentals and production systems designed for availability, consistency, durability, performance, and security.
- Strong proficiency in Java, including JVM performance tuning and production debugging.
- Strong proficiency in C, including memory management and production debugging.
- Experience with Cassandra, Kafka, Solr, Zookeeper, Redis, Valkey, or a comparable system.
- Ability to work through ambiguity, collaborate with operations teams, communicate effectively, and work across time zones.
- Experience with observability and monitoring, capacity planning, performance tuning, orchestration platforms for stateful workloads, or open-source infrastructure is preferred.
