Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain LHC Collimator Control System applications using the FESA framework.
- Coordinate and support commissioning, functional testing, validation, and verification of control-system interlocks and fail-safes.
- Integrate control systems with the alarm server and develop high-level tools for usability and real-time monitoring.
- Design and validate functional, integration, and regression tests.
- Support expert and operational interfaces with diagnostic capabilities and improved intervention workflows.
- Troubleshoot, analyse, and document complex technical issues in operational environments.
Requirements
- Professional background in Controls Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
- Either a Master's degree with 2–6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
- Experience with real-time or distributed control systems, preferably in accelerator, industrial automation, or scientific environments.
- Experience working in complex industrial or technical environments and developing expert interfaces such as GUIs or web tools.
- Proficiency in C++ and knowledge of Python.
- Experience with software version control such as Git and CI/CD workflows.
- Ability to perform system integration, commissioning, and validation for hardware-software control systems.
- English proficiency and commitment to learn French.
- Must be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and must not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
Benefits
- 24-month contract with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
- Fully onsite role, 40 hours per week, with a target start date of 1 January 2027.
- Monthly net stipend of either 6372 or 7004 Swiss Francs depending on degree.
