Base Salary
$296k - $444k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the technical strategy for Patreon's backend platform.
- Lead architecture and implementation of scalable distributed systems and APIs.
- Modernize backend architecture and service boundaries.
- Establish technical standards for reliability, performance, and scalability.
- Collaborate with product engineering teams to align platform capabilities with business needs.
- Shape cross-functional technical decision-making at an organizational scale.
- Enhance operational maturity around incident management and production excellence.
- Mentor Staff and Senior engineers through design reviews and technical leadership.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience building large-scale backend systems.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems and high-throughput APIs.
- Experience with databases and caching systems like MySQL and Redis.
- Strong understanding of data modeling and event-driven architectures.
- Experience in performance optimization across APIs and distributed services.
- Operational excellence mindset, including incident response.
- Experience with cloud-native environments such as AWS and Kubernetes.
- Proficiency in backend languages like Python, Go, Java, or Rust.
- Ability to communicate complex architectural trade-offs clearly.
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to engineering culture.
