Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, maintain, debug, and validate software applications for laboratory automation systems.
  • Build web-based and desktop user interfaces, dashboards, monitoring tools, alarm handling, reporting applications, workflow tools, and sample-tracking solutions.
  • Develop device drivers, APIs, middleware, and communication interfaces for robots, laboratory instruments, ovens, scanners, sensors, actuators, vision systems, and PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Integrate automation systems with LIMS, instrument data systems, laboratory and manufacturing databases, cloud-hosted applications, and enterprise software.
  • Implement REST APIs, OPC-UA, MQTT, TCP/IP, serial communications, Modbus, and other industrial communication interfaces.
  • Develop workflow automation for maintenance tracking, digital work instructions, QR/barcode processes, equipment monitoring, sample lifecycle management, and automated data collection.
  • Troubleshoot hardware-software integration issues and support deployment, commissioning, production startup, root-cause investigations, and continuous improvement.
  • Create and maintain software architecture documents, interface specifications, device communication standards, user guides, and installation and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Apply secure development practices including input validation, authentication, authorization, credential protection, dependency management, code reviews, and security-focused testing.
  • Collaborate across software, automation, laboratory, operations, and engineering teams and travel approximately 25–50%, primarily within the United States.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or Automation Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least 3 years of software development experience in automation, robotics, industrial systems, laboratory systems, or related fields.
  • Experience developing user interfaces for equipment, industrial systems, or laboratory applications.
  • Experience creating hardware communication interfaces, device drivers, or system integrations.
  • Experience integrating software with robotic systems, industrial equipment, laboratory instruments, or PLCs.
  • Strong experience with several listed programming languages, application frameworks, databases, automation and robotics integration technologies, device communications, industrial protocols, and reporting systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex software, integration, and automation issues with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Preferred experience with Universal Robots, ABB robotics, vision systems, laboratory automation, LIMS integrations, instrument control software, Azure, ROS/ROS2, and IoT or edge computing platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
