Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain durable, highly available, horizontally scalable backend services for Camunda 8’s distributed streaming platform.
- Lead medium-to-large engineering initiatives end-to-end, including requirements definition, solution designs, project plans, cross-team coordination, and delivery.
- Improve disaster recovery, resilience, online backup and restore, multi-region, and multi-tenant capabilities.
- Build developer and operator tooling for troubleshooting and safely operating distributed systems in production.
- Collaborate with DevOps and Core Application teams on CI, testing, and local development workflows.
- Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations to investigate and resolve complex production issues with Support and SRE.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on backend systems and/or distributed systems.
- Experience leading medium-to-large engineering initiatives, breaking down ambiguous problems, writing solution designs and project plans, coordinating across teams, and driving delivery.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining highly concurrent, data-intensive software with deep knowledge of network and disk I/O, including throughput, latency, backpressure, batching, and failure modes.
- Ability to work autonomously, navigate ambiguity, and drive unfamiliar problems to completion with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in a remote-first environment.
- Experience with workflow automation or process orchestration software is preferred.
- Experience with distributed systems algorithms or protocols such as Raft, Paxos, SWIM, and/or CRDTs is preferred.
- Familiarity with logging, metrics, tracing, L3 support, and on-call practices is preferred.
- Deep knowledge of the Java Virtual Machine, including its memory model and performance characteristics, is preferred.
