Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services for Camunda 8’s durable, highly available, horizontally scalable distributed streaming platform.
- Lead medium-to-large engineering initiatives end to end, including requirements, solution designs, project plans, cross-team coordination, and delivery.
- Improve disaster recovery and resilience through online backup and restore, multi-region capabilities, and multi-tenant cloud functionality.
- Build developer and operator tooling for troubleshooting and safely operating distributed systems in production.
- Collaborate with DevOps and Core Application teams to improve CI, testing, local development, and engineering workflows.
- Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations with Support and SRE to resolve complex production issues.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on backend systems and/or distributed systems.
- Experience leading medium-to-large engineering initiatives, breaking down ambiguous problems, creating technical designs and project plans, and coordinating multiple teams.
- Hands-on experience building highly concurrent, data-intensive software with strong knowledge of network and disk I/O, throughput, latency, backpressure, batching, and failure modes.
- Ability to work autonomously, navigate ambiguity, and drive problems to completion with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in a remote-first environment.
- Preferred experience with workflow automation or process orchestration software.
- Preferred experience with distributed systems algorithms or protocols such as Raft, Paxos, SWIM, and CRDTs.
- Preferred familiarity with logging, metrics, tracing, L3 support, and on-call operations.
- Preferred deep knowledge of the Java Virtual Machine, including its memory model and performance characteristics.
