Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of highly available, resilient, cost-efficient distributed systems serving millions of users with sub-50ms latency.
- Architect systems handling over 1M requests per second while maintaining 99.99% availability and strong consistency for critical financial and pricing flows.
- Drive technical strategy for platform evolution, microservices architecture, and API design.
- Build platform abstractions, developer tools, SDKs, and other systems that enable ML and Product teams to iterate rapidly.
- Lead architectural transitions toward dual-rail resiliency for mission-critical payment and pricing flows.
- Partner with Product, Data Science, Operations, Directors, VPs, and external partners on scalable platform solutions.
- Drive architecture reviews, reduce systemic technical debt, and improve observability and incident response across the organization.
- Lead large-scale engineering projects through inception, requirements gathering, and global productionization while establishing technical standards and frameworks.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience in backend development and large-scale distributed systems.
- Proven ability to lead organization-wide development and adoption of key frameworks and coding best practices.
- Experience anticipating architectural problems or opportunities and addressing them with leadership before business impact.
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale engineering projects through all lifecycle stages.
- Expertise defining standards for testing, monitoring, and alerting systems and overseeing complex organizational incident management.
- Experience identifying architectural gaps and creating organization-wide frameworks that improve developer velocity and reduce systemic technical debt.
- Demonstrated ability to build strategic relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners around a technical vision.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred expert-level proficiency in Go, Java, or Python and experience with real-time marketplace platforms requiring high consistency and global reliability.
- Preferred experience building developer tools, SDKs, and abstractions used by hundreds of engineers, including streaming systems with Flink or Kafka.
- Preferred proficiency with GCP and Kubernetes at massive global scale.
- Preferred strategic architecture mindset and experience serving as a technical brand ambassador.
