Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, manage, and optimize AWS RDS and Aurora environments using Aurora, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL.
- Operate Apache Cassandra clusters in distributed, multi-region environments.
- Build database infrastructure with Terraform and develop reusable modules for provisioning, networking, security, backup, and disaster recovery.
- Implement high availability and disaster recovery strategies including multi-AZ deployments, replicas, and cross-region failover.
- Define and enforce database platform standards for provisioning, configuration, and monitoring.
- Improve database performance through query tuning, indexing, and parameter tuning.
- Build observability and monitoring solutions using CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, and New Relic.
- Automate operational workflows and integrate them with CI/CD pipelines.
- Support migrations from on-premises environments to AWS and from relational databases to Cassandra where applicable.
- Partner with engineering teams on schema design, data modeling, and scalability patterns.
- Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response and root cause analysis.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in database engineering, SRE, or platform engineering roles.
- Strong hands-on production experience with AWS RDS/Aurora and required experience with Terraform.
- Experience working with distributed databases such as Cassandra.
- Strong understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
- Strong knowledge of AWS services including RDS, EC2, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch.
- Experience building and maintaining infrastructure as code at scale, including Terraform modules, state management, and CI/CD integration.
- Linux systems administration experience.
- Strong troubleshooting and production incident management skills.
- Experience with Kubernetes-based database deployments, K8ssandra, or database operators is desirable.
- Familiarity with AWS DMS or database migration frameworks is desirable.
- Experience with DataStax, Astra DB, or managed Cassandra services is desirable.
- Exposure to DevOps or GitOps workflows and multi-cloud environments is desirable.
