Responsibilities
- Lead payments projects end to end, from discovery and PSP integration design through implementation, rollout, monitoring, and incident response.
- Expand local payment methods, including UPI, PIX, and account-to-account rails, across priority markets.
- Build card issuing capabilities including ledgers, authorization flows, controls, and operational tooling.
- Scale payment processing reliability toward 10x growth and support multi-currency and FX capabilities across more than 20 currencies.
- Partner with Product and PayOps to understand organizer and traveler needs and build effective payment solutions.
- Own payments-system reliability, participate in on-call operations, write post-mortems, and lead incident response.
- Contribute to engineering practices, technical excellence, team culture, and mentoring, including AI-tool adoption.
Requirements
- 7+ years of product engineering experience, including 4+ years architecting complex payments systems.
- Experience at a PSP, acquirer, gateway, or high-scale platform payments team.
- Production experience integrating and troubleshooting PSPs, card acquirer ecosystems, and diverse payment rails.
- Deep expertise in settlement, reconciliation, dispute management, 3DS2, webhook management, PCI compliance, and tokenization.
- Strong backend experience with Ruby on Rails, Kotlin, Python, Go, Java, or Node.js, with the ability to ramp up quickly on Ruby.
- Full-stack comfort building React interfaces for payment flows.
- Experience designing distributed payment systems involving double-entry ledgers, reconciliation pipelines, money movement state machines, idempotency, exactly-once semantics, event-driven architectures, webhooks, and reliable consumers.
- Direct production on-call experience, including post-mortems and incident response leadership.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, containerization, and modern CI/CD practices, including AWS or GCP and Kubernetes.
- Experience handling FX and multi-currency logic directly in the application layer.
- Strong written and verbal communication and cross-functional collaboration skills in distributed, multicultural environments.
- Pragmatic use of AI tools and ability to mentor and train others on AI concepts.
- Preferred: experience launching payment methods or PSP integrations, operating card-issuing programs, or building marketplace and two-sided-platform payment flows.
- Bonus: card issuing experience including BIN sponsorship, processor integrations, controls, and dispute handling.
