Responsibilities
- Build and operate real-time systems for fraud and scam prevention through transfer and profile decisioning.
- Own the technical roadmap, system design, RFCs, delivery, and long-term operation of key fraud prevention projects.
- Improve the latency, reliability, scalability, observability, security, and decision quality of the risk decisioning platform.
- Address technical debt, manage risk within appetite, and apply engineering best practices involving Kafka, databases, and testing.
- Lead incident resolution and post-incident reviews.
- Mentor and coach engineers, support onboarding, conduct interviews, and share knowledge across the team.
- Collaborate with Product, Data Science, Fraud Operations, and Analytics to balance fraud protection with customer experience.
Requirements
- Strong experience building and operating production systems using Java/JVM, with expert-level technical expertise.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architectures, including Kafka or similar technologies.
- Experience designing low-latency, highly available, scalable systems and well-documented API-first interfaces.
- Track record of contributing significantly to large, impactful projects and owning their technical direction from design through long-term operation.
- Experience taking accountability for system reliability, security, and observability.
- Ability to explain customer problems, expected impact, and product tradeoffs.
- Experience mentoring and coaching engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and engineering best practices.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Preferred experience with Python, machine learning concepts, deploying models in production, or working with large language models in production.
