Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design of large projects by breaking ambiguous problems into milestones, writing and reviewing RFCs, and making architectural decisions.
- Build reliable, secure, API-first backend solutions using Java, Spring, Kafka, and relational databases within a microservices architecture.
- Own production systems by improving availability, reliability, security, observability, and testing; participate in on-call, incident response, and post-mortems.
- Mentor and coach engineers, onboard new joiners, document knowledge, conduct code reviews, and interview candidates.
- Provide product-minded feedback on roadmaps and collaborate with product, design, analytics, and operations teams.
Requirements
- Expert backend engineering experience with strong distributed-systems fundamentals, including consistency, idempotency, and failure-mode reasoning.
- Significant contributions to large, impactful projects, including ownership of technical design, delivery, launch, and ongoing iteration.
- Ability to connect technical work to customer problems, product impact, and data-informed decision-making.
- Experience mentoring engineers, conducting thoughtful code reviews, communicating clearly, and collaborating across teams.
- Experience owning production systems, including observability, security, testing, on-call participation, and incident resolution.
- Ability to stay current with technology and use AI tools to improve productivity.
- Experience in payments, FX, fintech, or regulated domains is preferred but not required.
- Frontend or mobile experience and experience shipping LLM-backed production features are preferred but not required.
