Base Salary
$140k - $372k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, implementation, and evolution of systems powering GitHub pull requests at scale.
- Define and execute the Pull Request Platform technical roadmap around reliability, scalability, and service extraction.
- Solve complex problems involving Git operations, databases, search and indexing, APIs, and asynchronous workflows.
- Design, develop, test, and ship maintainable solutions across multiple GitHub services.
- Own production-system health through on-call participation, incident response, and post-incident improvements.
- Set standards for operational safety, testing, observability, deployment, and production rollouts.
- Write architecture briefs and technical proposals, conduct code experiments, and communicate tradeoffs and operational risks.
- Partner across engineering teams on scalable interfaces, service extraction, platform hardening, automation, tooling, and standardization.
- Provide technical leadership through mentorship, pairing, code reviews, and design reviews.
Requirements
- At least 9 years of relevant software engineering or related technical experience, or qualifying education-and-experience alternatives ranging from an associate degree with 8 years to a doctorate with 3 years.
- Proven experience maintaining and delivering production software using languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
- Equivalent experience may substitute for the stated education requirements.
- Preferred experience includes at least 1 year developing software in Ruby and/or Go.
- Preferred experience includes designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems or platform infrastructure with demanding reliability and performance requirements.
- Preferred experience includes improving the scalability, observability, resilience, and performance of high-traffic production systems.
- Experience with monolith decomposition, service extraction, or large-scale architecture migrations is preferred.
