Staff Software Engineer - Autonomy Evaluation

- Define strategy and architecture for metrics and analyses evaluating autonomous driving software across the autonomy stack.
- Lead cross-functional efforts integrating evaluation into development workflows and release decisions.
- Develop statistical, machine learning, and ML introspection methods to quantify performance, detect regressions, and identify system behavior patterns.
- Own AV evaluation metrics and KPIs used for readiness and safety decisions.
- Synthesize and present evaluation results and tradeoffs to stakeholders.
- Build interactive dashboards and make evaluation insights available to partner teams.
- Design, run, and interpret large-scale simulation and field experiments and support evaluation pipelines and release-gating processes.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of applied experience with robotics or autonomous systems software spanning perception, planning, and vehicle control.
- At least 3 years leading evaluation of complex dynamic systems using numerical and ML approaches on large-scale time series data.
- Production Python development experience and the ability to work in large C++ autonomy codebases.
- Proven cross-team technical leadership, including defining strategies adopted by multiple teams and influencing system and architecture decisions.
- PhD, master’s, or bachelor’s degree in computer science, robotics, mechanical or aerospace engineering, machine learning, or a related field.
- Preferred experience in autonomous driving or high-stakes field robotics and large-scale simulation or field experimentation.
- Preferred familiarity with statistical modeling, experimental design, hypothesis testing, Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and visualization libraries.
- Preferred proficiency in C++ and SQL, experience with logging, data schemas, and large-scale autonomy evaluation pipelines.
- Preferred experience with ROS or other IPC, robotics stack logging, experiment databases, computational geometry, linear algebra, PyTorch, machine learning, agent interaction modeling, and autonomy release-gating criteria.
