Base Salary
$242k - $288k/yr
Responsibilities
- Develop and improve production ML models and AI-powered patient systems for matching, ranking, recommendations, onboarding, and personalization.
- Build reusable ML infrastructure and capabilities, including feature infrastructure, training and inference pipelines, model serving, evaluation, observability, and lifecycle tooling.
- Lead the full ML lifecycle from problem formulation and data or feature engineering through training, evaluation, experimentation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Build and operate foundation-model and generative-AI systems in production while managing reliability, latency, cost, privacy, safety, and operational tradeoffs.
- Connect offline model performance to online experiments and measurable product or business outcomes.
- Set technical direction, influence architecture across teams, mentor senior engineers, and partner with Rula’s ML team on shared infrastructure, models, and standards.
- Determine whether problems are best addressed with custom ML, foundation models or AI services, deterministic software, or hybrid approaches.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software and/or ML engineering experience, including significant experience designing, building, deploying, and operating production ML systems with measurable product or business impact.
- Strong Python experience and the ability to build scalable systems while personally writing and reviewing production-quality code.
- Deep hands-on expertise across the ML lifecycle, including problem formulation, data and feature engineering, model development and training, evaluation, experimentation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Experience providing technical leadership across teams, influencing architecture, mentoring senior engineers, and exercising judgment about ML and AI solution approaches.
- Demonstrated 0-to-1 experience building shared ML infrastructure or reusable capabilities adopted across teams.
- Deep experience with recommendation, ranking, relevance, personalization, search, or matching systems, with rigorous evaluation tied to online experiments and product or business outcomes.
- Hands-on experience building and operating modern foundation-model or generative-AI systems in production.
- Preferred: experience maturing an organization’s ML engineering practices from early-stage or ad hoc development.
- Preferred: experience operating ML systems in healthcare, financial services, or another regulated or high-trust environment.
