Responsibilities
- Assess, benchmark, select, train or fine-tune, and deploy ML models for privacy use cases while evaluating coverage, false positives, latency, cost, and product quality.
- Build sensitive-data detection, masking, redaction, and tokenization systems for structured and unstructured data across logs, traces, APIs, analytics, and annotation tools.
- Implement customer data-use, access, retention, and deletion controls across distributed services and data stores.
- Build privacy evaluations for ML and LLM systems, including tests for memorization, training-data extraction, membership inference, and sensitive-data disclosure.
- Develop privacy-preserving evaluation and synthetic-data approaches and integrate suitable solutions into ML pipelines.
- Conduct privacy design reviews, identify data-flow and architecture gaps, and deliver reusable protection components and engineering standards.
- Monitor privacy controls and models in production, investigate failures, address regressions, and resolve customer-reported privacy issues.
- Set technical direction across teams, write production code, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- Typically 7+ years of experience building production software, including substantial privacy engineering and applied ML experience.
- Strong Python skills and experience with Go, Java, C++, or another production systems language.
- Hands-on experience evaluating, selecting, deploying, adapting, or fine-tuning ML models, including dataset curation, error analysis, and model serving.
- Experience building sensitive-data detection and masking systems and managing accuracy, performance, and integration tradeoffs.
- Experience assessing privacy risks in ML and LLM systems and implementing mitigations.
- Deep understanding of data minimization, pseudonymization, anonymization, and re-identification risk.
- Experience building data protection and lifecycle controls in distributed cloud systems.
- Experience taking ambiguous engineering problems from design through delivery, setting technical direction, and mentoring engineers.
- Preferred experience with differential privacy, privacy-enhancing technologies, agentic systems, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, synthetic datasets, enterprise or regulated environments, GDPR, and CCPA.
