Responsibilities
- Own the execution engine’s runtime, scheduling, and sub-agent parallelization.
- Build checkpointing, resumption, and recovery for long-running agent workloads.
- Design how work is scheduled, queued, and transitioned between synchronous and asynchronous execution.
- Improve engine reliability, deploy safety, worker freshness, drain time, latency, and throughput at scale.
- Keep the runtime extensible for new agent harnesses, orchestration frameworks, and model capabilities.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of production backend-systems experience with deep distributed-systems expertise.
- Hands-on experience with durable execution or workflow orchestration such as Temporal, Cadence, Airflow, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of concurrency, queueing, retries, and fault tolerance under load.
- Strong Python skills and experience with modern backend frameworks such as FastAPI.
- Sound database fundamentals, including Postgres or an equivalent database.
- Bonus qualifications include operating Temporal at scale, event-driven architectures and message queues, PydanticAI or LangGraph, AI or agent runtimes, high-throughput backend optimization, and startup or growth-stage experience.
