Responsibilities
- Develop embedded software systems for spacecraft, lunar landers, and other transportation-system elements.
- Derive software requirements from system-level requirements and lead software architecture, design, and implementation.
- Design software architectures, select DSPs and microprocessors, develop board support packages, and assess design feasibility.
- Collaborate with avionics, ground-segment, system-engineering, design, analysis, suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders on technology selection and make-or-buy decisions.
- Design, code, review, integrate, test, support, and enhance spacecraft software for attitude or motion control, command, communications, power and data management, and fault protection.
- Lead software engineers and software architecture activities while managing assigned schedules, costs, quality, tasks, status, and issues.
- Document software throughout all development phases and lead analysis of new functions and problems.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience designing and coding embedded software for high-reliability applications.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
- Deep understanding of real-time operating systems and embedded software.
- Experience with bus, communication, and networking protocols including RS-422, PCI, Ethernet, and SpaceWire.
- Proficiency in the C programming language.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with software engineers, subsystem engineers, stakeholders, and customers.
- Business-level English or business-level Japanese.
- Preferred: aerospace or other high-reliability embedded-software industry experience.
- Preferred: 5+ years of experience with Linux, Zephyr, or another real-time operating-system development environment.
- Preferred: 5+ years of software development experience with Git.
- Preferred: 5+ years of experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and meters.
- Preferred: 5+ years of continuous integration experience.
- Preferred: 5+ years of experience as a software team lead or architect.
