Responsibilities
- Serve as REI’s AI practice representative for FDA stakeholders and participate in executive briefings, account leadership, and business development activities.
- Define the enterprise AI vision, strategy, roadmap, reference architecture, governance practices, and reusable implementation standards for the FDA account.
- Architect, personally implement guidance for, and review production AI solutions using LLMs, RAG, AI agents, machine learning, APIs, vector databases, and cloud-native services.
- Lead AI pilots, proofs of concept, prototypes, and production implementations across FDA systems and mission areas.
- Establish approaches for model selection, hosting, prompt engineering, embeddings, grounding, orchestration, evaluation, monitoring, and multi-agent systems.
- Ensure AI solutions address security, privacy, accessibility, records management, responsible AI, FedRAMP, and Authority to Operate requirements.
- Collaborate with enterprise architects, engineers, data scientists, cybersecurity teams, product owners, and program leadership throughout the solution lifecycle.
- Mentor AI and technical architects and set technical direction for teams supporting the SIRCE and SCAIL programs.
- Support proposals, capture, technical demonstrations, white papers, architecture workshops, and AI discovery sessions.
- Maintain a regular on-site presence at FDA facilities and the REI Sterling Office as needed.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, enterprise architecture, cloud architecture, data, or related technology disciplines.
- Hands-on or architecture-level experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, Generative AI, or advanced analytics, including at least one major AI solution deployed to production for a Federal agency.
- Experience designing enterprise AI solutions using LLMs, RAG architectures, AI agents, APIs, vector databases, and cloud AI services.
- Strong understanding of AI, software, data, and cloud architecture, API integration, and cybersecurity.
- Experience with AWS and/or Microsoft Azure AI and cloud services.
- Experience translating organizational objectives into technical strategies and enterprise architectures.
- Demonstrated executive communication and experience engaging C-suite, CIO, and senior government stakeholders.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary architecture discussions and supporting Federal proposals, capture, oral presentations, or client relationship management.
- Ability to mentor AI or technical architects and establish technical direction.
- Willingness and ability to work regularly on-site at FDA facilities in the Washington, DC metro area, with travel as needed.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Federal Public Trust or other required government clearance.
- Preferred experience includes Federal or regulated environments, AWS Bedrock, Amazon SageMaker, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Databricks, Snowflake, LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, LlamaIndex, FedRAMP, ATO processes, AI governance, and AI Centers of Excellence.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Operations Management, or a related field.
