Responsibilities
- Lead technical strategy and execution across complex, multi-workstream customer AI engagements.
- Design and build production-scale AI systems, including multi-agent orchestration, enterprise retrieval systems, and decision intelligence platforms.
- Make architecture decisions spanning multiple services and organizational boundaries while aligning with customer technology strategies.
- Define operational standards, evaluation frameworks, testing strategies, observability standards, incident response playbooks, and production-readiness criteria.
- Create reusable engineering patterns, platforms, and accelerators that improve the effectiveness of the FDE practice and reduce customer time-to-value.
- Mentor junior Forward Deployed Engineers and coach teams on system design, customer engagement, and production operations.
- Contribute to interviewing and hiring and identify systemic opportunities to expand AI adoption across customer organizations.
- Feed customer engagement learnings back into AWS services and the broader FDE practice.
Requirements
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 5+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language.
- 5+ years of experience leading the design or architecture of new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or engineering team lead.
- Experience communicating technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, including senior stakeholders.
- Experience leading agentic and spec-driven development at production scale; experience developing AI agents is a plus.
- Experience with AI tools including evaluation frameworks, agent tooling, RAG pipelines, and prompt engineering.
- Preferred bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
- Preferred experience with AWS services and building or deploying AI/ML applications at enterprise production scale.
- Preferred background as a founder, engineering lead, or startup builder with high ownership and urgency.
- Preferred experience architecting and delivering complex, multi-component systems in customer production environments.
- Preferred experience with React, TypeScript, Python, and/or Go.
- Preferred experience leading customer-facing technical projects or managing external stakeholder relationships.
- Preferred 3+ years of experience in an Agile, startup, or rapidly scaling environment.
