Responsibilities
- Design and build high-performance PHP services, APIs, background jobs, and database-driven features for financial transactions.
- Develop and maintain payment-platform features with high availability, low latency, correctness, and scalability.
- Review pull requests, enforce engineering standards, and improve code quality, architecture, and performance.
- Own features from conception through deployment using cloud infrastructure and modern delivery practices.
- Collaborate with product managers and engineering leads to align technical solutions with business goals and delivery quality.
- Lead technical discussions, communicate trade-offs, mentor engineers, and raise the team's technical standards.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend development expertise.
- Advanced PHP experience, preferably PHP 8.x, including strict types, object-oriented programming, design patterns, testing, and maintainable application architecture.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases, including schema design, indexing, query optimization, transactions, and data consistency.
- Experience designing and maintaining versioned APIs with clear contracts, error handling, security, and backward compatibility.
- Experience with high-throughput, distributed, or mission-critical systems where reliability, latency, and correctness matter.
- Strong testing experience across unit, integration, and contract testing.
- Understanding of secure engineering practices, including injection risks, data exposure, authentication, authorization, and failure modes.
- Experience with asynchronous processing, message queues, retries, idempotency, and eventual consistency patterns.
- Experience with Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, collaborative engineering delivery, technical leadership, and mentoring.
- Completed military obligations, if applicable.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with DDD, CQRS, event-driven or service-oriented systems, AWS, fintech or payments, strong consistency, auditability, reconciliation, observability, Kubernetes, Docker, and cross-team technical influence.
