Responsibilities
- Design and build high-performance PHP services, APIs, background jobs, and database-driven features that process financial transactions at scale.
- Develop and maintain payment-platform features supporting wallets, alternative payment methods, marketplace checkouts, and millions of users.
- Write maintainable PHP using strict types, typed properties, and PSR standards.
- Review pull requests, enforce engineering standards, and recommend improved patterns.
- Identify and address code-quality, architecture, performance, availability, security, and latency improvements.
- Collaborate with product managers and engineering leads to align technical solutions with business goals and delivery requirements.
- Own features from conception through deployment using cloud infrastructure and modern DevOps practices.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional backend development experience.
- Strong PHP 8.x skills, including strict types, object-oriented programming, and design patterns, or equivalent backend-language experience with the ability to ramp up.
- Strong understanding of relational database schema design, query optimization, and transactions.
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs, including contracts, versioning, and error handling.
- Experience with unit and integration testing and understanding when to apply each.
- A security-minded approach covering edge cases, injection, data exposure, and failure modes.
- Experience with Git workflows and CI/CD pipelines in a team environment.
- Experience with message queues and asynchronous processing patterns.
- Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Completed military obligations, if applicable.
- Familiarity with domain-driven design, CQRS, or event-driven architectures is preferred.
- Experience with AWS services such as SQS, Lambda, and ECS is preferred.
- Fintech, payments, or regulated-environment experience is preferred.
