Base Salary

$260k - $345k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Define and refine a technical vision for autonomous, agentic SDLC.
  • Identify and prioritize non-linear productivity opportunities across the SDLC.
  • Translate ambiguous problem spaces into concrete roadmaps with cross-functional teams.
  • Lead experiments to validate agentic workflows in engineering tasks.
  • Design reference architectures for agentic SDLC within GitLab.
  • Define evaluation frameworks to measure the impact of agentic workflows.
  • Select and drive high-impact internal use cases from concept to adoption.
  • Embed agentic workflows into daily development practices.
  • Track core productivity metrics and link interventions to business outcomes.
  • Capture reusable patterns and libraries for team adoption.
  • Convert proven internal patterns into product capabilities for customers.
  • Ensure compliance with multi-tenant and data governance requirements.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex technical decisions.
  • Mentor Principal and Staff Engineers on AI and agentic efforts.
  • Write design documents and architecture narratives for team alignment.
  • Represent GitLab at conferences and in open source communities.
  • Partner with Security and Compliance to define guardrails for AI features.
  • Work with Reliability and SRE teams to ensure service resilience.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years in a senior technical leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in AI and ML systems, including large language models.
  • Proven track record of leading technical experimentation and scalable architecture decisions.
  • Strong background in scalable, multi-tenant distributed systems.
  • Experience with human-in-the-loop controls and responsible AI practices.
  • Ability to drive cross-functional alignment on complex technical challenges.
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and influencing technical direction.
  • Excellent written and asynchronous communication skills.
  • Familiarity with GitLab's DevSecOps platform and software development lifecycle is a plus.
