Responsibilities
- Implement backend and web-tier features in PHP 8.x using Laravel or Symfony.
- Build and consume APIs for subscriber management, catalog administration, metadata publishing, and back-office workflows.
- Integrate PHP applications with Java and Spring Boot microservices using OpenAPI, gRPC, and typed client or DTO layers.
- Implement authentication, token propagation, retries, timeouts, graceful degradation, and cross-runtime data correctness.
- Integrate AWS services and implement asynchronous workloads with queue, retry, idempotency, and dead-letter handling.
- Write unit and integration tests and maintain static analysis and coding standards.
- Triage L3 application defects, perform root-cause analysis, and distinguish PHP, Java-service, and contract-level issues.
- Investigate PHP production issues involving memory, execution timeouts, PHP-FPM saturation, OPcache, and query performance.
- Support release notes, non-production validation, production deployments, rollback verification, and on-call or shift-based support.
Requirements
- At least five years of total experience is required.
- Three to four years of hands-on backend development, including at least two years of production experience with PHP 7.4 or PHP 8.x.
- Strong modern PHP skills, including object-oriented programming, dependency injection, type declarations, Composer, PSR-4, and PSR-12.
- Production experience with Laravel or Symfony, including routing, middleware, service containers, ORM, migrations, queues, and events.
- Experience with PHPUnit or Pest, PHPStan or Psalm, static analysis, and coding-standard tooling.
- Strong SQL and relational database skills, including joins, indexing, query performance, and migration authoring.
- Working knowledge of at least four AWS services in a development capacity and understanding of PHP application deployment using nginx or Apache, PHP-FPM, EC2, ECS, or serverless PHP.
- Demonstrable production experience integrating PHP applications with Java-based services and ability to read Java and Spring Boot code.
- Fluency with API contracts, OpenAPI, Swagger, JSON Schema, HTTP semantics, status codes, error payloads, and versioning.
- Preferred qualifications include OTT or streaming exposure, HLS, DASH, DRM, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, DynamoDB, MongoDB, OpenSearch, Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation, Kubernetes, EKS, observability tools, frontend technologies, and ITSM tools.
