Responsibilities
- Own foundational platform problems involving architecture, correctness, reliability, data integrity, and developer leverage.
- Design, build, and operate complex backend and distributed systems in production.
- Drive high-leverage technical investments from ambiguous problem definition through production delivery.
- Apply systems thinking to API design, data modeling, system boundaries, failure modes, and operational tradeoffs.
- Debug difficult issues across application, data, and infrastructure layers.
- Collaborate across engineering, product, finance, and domain teams to translate complex technical tradeoffs.
- Write and operate production code rather than focusing solely on architecture, planning, or technical strategy.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience.
- Significant experience building and owning complex backend, platform, or distributed systems in production.
- Deep backend and distributed-systems experience in environments where correctness, reliability, and data integrity matter.
- Strong systems thinking, including API design, data modeling, system boundaries, failure modes, and operational tradeoffs.
- Excellent technical judgment, debugging instincts, and ability to choose simple or durable solutions appropriately.
- Ability to create clarity from ambiguity and independently identify high-leverage technical problems.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Hands-on mindset and willingness to design and build systems.
- Experience with financial systems, ledgers, accounting infrastructure, data platforms, developer platforms, or other correctness- and auditability-critical systems is preferred.
- Comfort working in a complex, judgment-heavy domain and closely with product engineers and domain experts is preferred.
