Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve complex, highly available backend services and applications, including low-level system design, API design, and data modeling.
- Lead technical solutions from requirements analysis and design through development, code review, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Drive technical direction by evaluating tradeoffs, decomposing complex problems, and influencing architectural decisions across multiple services.
- Collaborate with product, design, data, and engineering teams to deliver reusable and extensible features and platforms.
- Integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions safely in real-world products and services.
- Promote automation, observability, operational readiness, incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous service improvement.
- Mentor junior engineers, lead design reviews, contribute to code quality standards, and participate in technical investigations and production support.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent related professional experience.
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Proven ownership of complex services or multi-service systems, including design, implementation, operational health, and iterative improvement.
- Strong system design, low-level design, API design, data modeling, software development, and database knowledge.
- Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to products.
- Experience with large-scale distributed systems, cross-service integrations, data flows, resilience patterns, monitoring, alerting, performance tuning, and incident management.
- Experience mentoring engineers, influencing technical strategy, leading design reviews, and setting standards for code quality and system design.
- Experience using Java or similar object-oriented languages, or Scala, Kotlin, or similar functional languages.
- Experience building and operating distributed systems and services in AWS or similar cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with event-driven systems using Kafka Streams, AWS Kinesis, or similar technologies.
- Experience optimizing low-latency, high-throughput microservices, implementing auto-scaling, blue-green deployments, canary releases, and SLAs, SLOs, and SLIs.
- Strong practical experience with distributed caching technologies such as Redis, Couchbase, or Memcached.
- Understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, data structures, API patterns, service-oriented architectures, version control, continuous integration, and continuous delivery practices.
- Experience using data and experimentation to inform technical and product decisions and integrating AI/ML components such as recommendation, ranking, or decisioning services.
