Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and evolve complex, highly available services and applications using system design, API design, and data modeling.
  • Lead technical solutions from requirements analysis and design through implementation, review, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
  • Drive technical direction, evaluate tradeoffs, decompose complex problems, and influence architectural decisions across services.
  • Collaborate with product, design, data, and engineering teams to deliver reusable and extensible features and platforms.
  • Integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions safely in real-world products and existing services.
  • Promote automation, observability, operational readiness, incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous service improvement.
  • Mentor junior engineers, lead design reviews, conduct code reviews, and contribute to technical standards and shared problem solving.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent related professional experience.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proven ownership of complex services or multi-service systems, including design, implementation, operational health, and iterative improvement.
  • Strong system design, low-level design, API design, data modeling, software development, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real-world products.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems, cross-service integrations, data flows, resilience patterns, and operational excellence.
  • Experience with monitoring, alerting, performance tuning, incident management, reliability tooling, and service-level objectives.
  • Experience leveraging data and experimentation to inform technical and product decisions.
  • Hands-on experience integrating or extending AI/ML-enabled production components such as recommendation, ranking, or decisioning services.
  • Hands-on software development experience with Java or similar object-oriented languages, or Scala, Kotlin, or similar functional languages.
  • Experience building and operating scalable distributed systems in AWS or similar cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience implementing distributed event-driven systems using Kafka Streams, AWS Kinesis, or similar technologies.
  • Experience optimizing low-latency, high-throughput microservices, including processing at 1M+ TPS.
  • Experience with auto-scaling, blue-green deployments, canary releases, and SLAs, SLOs, and SLIs.
  • Strong practical knowledge of distributed caching technologies such as Redis, Couchbase, or Memcached.
  • Experience working on Agile development teams of at least five engineers and with version control, continuous integration, and continuous delivery practices.
  • Understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, data structures, API patterns, and service-oriented architectures.

  • Seattle-based role with an advertised total cash range of $146,000.00 to $204,500.00 and potential pay up to $233,500.00 based on performance.
