Responsibilities
- Define technical direction and lead architecture decisions for the Payments Platform.
- Design and build scalable backend services, APIs, event-driven systems, and integration components.
- Develop high-volume distributed systems supporting payment gateways, acquiring, issuing, card networks, and local payment methods.
- Lead initiatives from concept through production while improving quality, testing, observability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Partner with product, business, infrastructure, and external engineering teams to deliver merchant-focused technical solutions.
- Conduct architectural reviews, address technical debt, mentor engineers, and lead cross-team technical initiatives.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including Staff-level technical leadership or equivalent ownership of complex backend systems.
- Strong experience designing and operating high-volume distributed systems, preferably in payments, fintech, commerce, or financial infrastructure.
- Recent hands-on experience with Java or Kotlin and Spring or Spring Boot.
- Expertise with Kafka-based event streams and distributed data stores such as Cassandra, Hazelcast, Oracle Coherence, or similar technologies.
- Experience with GCP or AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and observability or operational tools such as New Relic, StatsD, ELK, Datadog, or Prometheus.
- Ability to lead projects from concept to production with strong focus on quality, testing, reliability, and maintainability.
- Strong communication and cross-functional influence skills.
- Preferred experience with payment gateways, acquiring, issuing, payment acceptance infrastructure, Visa, Mastercard, iDEAL, Klarna, Trustly, authorization, capture, refunds, chargebacks, settlement, reconciliation, fraud, risk, or PCI/compliance workflows.
