Base Salary
$180k - $240k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead large and complex technical projects from ambiguous problem definition through architecture, implementation, and production.
- Architect and build backend systems supporting AI-driven workflows, real-time inference, tool orchestration, and long-running processes.
- Drive technical direction for critical systems with emphasis on scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Build new systems from 0 to 1 and evolve existing architecture as the product, customer base, and engineering organization scale.
- Establish technical patterns and abstractions, conduct code reviews, mentor engineers, and raise the engineering bar.
- Partner with product and design to shape solutions, identify technical opportunities, and make thoughtful tradeoffs.
- Own systems end to end, including testing, deployment, observability, reliability, and production operations.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience building and operating backend systems.
- Proven ability to independently lead large, technically complex projects in fast-moving or ambiguous environments.
- Deep expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, algorithms, and system design.
- Experience taking products or systems from 0 to 1 and making architectural decisions with incomplete information.
- Ability to turn vague, high-variance problems into clear technical approaches and drive execution.
- Experience designing production systems for scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability.
- Strong product judgment, communication skills, and ability to influence technical decisions across teams.
- Preferred experience with AI/ML systems, LLMs, agentic workflows, high-growth startups, or early-stage companies.
- Proficiency with TypeScript or similar languages is preferred.
