Responsibilities
- Architect and build new internal AI systems end to end, from initial design through production, as the founding engineer.
- Own trustworthy AI challenges at company scale, including retrieval quality, permissions, security, and reliability.
- Work hands-on across LLMs, retrieval, agents, and integrations while maintaining pragmatic technical foundations.
- Embed with teams across the company to ship AI into real workflows and establish systems and owners that endure.
- Lead build-versus-buy evaluations and rapid proofs of concept, committing decisively or terminating experiments when appropriate.
- Work directly with executive leadership on systems that influence company decision-making.
Requirements
- Track record of building production systems at Staff+ scope, including data infrastructure, retrieval, or applied AI used daily by hundreds to thousands of people.
- Hands-on depth with the modern AI stack and experience learning from failures in production AI systems.
- Pragmatic technology judgment and the ability to justify technology choices.
- Founding-engineer, consulting, or forward-deployed experience with ownership of outcomes inside another team's domain.
- Daily experience using AI tools and agents as instruments to build with and build for.
- Ability to ship quickly while maintaining trustworthy engineering standards.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions to executive leadership.
