Responsibilities
- Write functional, design, and test specifications for EOS forwarding and networking features.
- Implement and debug EOS software using C, C++, and Python.
- Develop and monitor automated tests and resolve issues found by testing.
- Work on routing protocol, packet forwarding, Ethernet switching, and distributed systems problems.
- Analyze customer and system-test issues and deliver software releases or patches.
- Mentor new and junior engineers and review other engineers’ specifications and implementations.
- Help create, update, and report implementation and debugging schedules.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering plus 8 years of experience; or a master’s degree plus 6 years; or a Ph.D. plus 3 years; equivalent work experience is accepted.
- Knowledge of C, C++, and/or Python and Unix or Linux.
- Understanding of L2/L3 networking and routing or Layer 2 protocols such as RIP, OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, PIM, 802.1d, 802.1ax, 802.1AB, or RFC 1812.
- Ability to use, test, and debug packet forwarding engines and vendor-provided hardware software libraries.
- Experience with distributed-systems infrastructure such as messaging, signalling, databases, and command-line interfaces.
- Desirable hands-on experience developing Ethernet bridging, routing, distributed systems, enterprise switching, or service-provider router software, or significant Ph.D.-level research in network routing and packet forwarding.
- Applied software engineering knowledge and strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to independently design and implement small solutions and collaborate on medium-sized problems with limited oversight.

- Base pay is CAD $120,000–$195,000 annually across Canada, with location-based ranges; bonuses and equity may apply to certain roles.
