Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance APIs, backend services, user interfaces, and other applications supporting scientific workflows.
- Build and maintain scalable data processing pipelines, ETL workflows, data validation, and quality checks for scientific data.
- Design and optimize database schemas, queries, data access layers, and application-database integrations.
- Collaborate with scientists, senior engineers, technical leads, IT teams, and external partners on requirements, architecture, implementation, and deployments.
- Participate in code reviews, document technical decisions and data workflows, and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
- Troubleshoot application and pipeline issues, support CI/CD and production deployments, and participate in incident response and monitoring.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years or Master’s degree with 3+ years of professional software development experience, including delivery of production applications or data systems.
- Strong proficiency in Python for application development and data processing, including FastAPI, Flask, Django, pandas, NumPy, and scikit-learn.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining data pipelines, ETL workflows, and data processing systems at scale.
- Solid experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including schema design, query optimization, and data access layers.
- Experience with RESTful APIs, backend services, and application integration with data systems.
- Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or GCP; Docker; and Git.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience in scientific computing, bioinformatics, pharmaceutical or biotech environments, biomedical data, workflow orchestration, data platforms, data lakes, data warehouses, frontend development, microservices, AI/ML production deployments, Go, Rust, C++, security, or compliance is desirable.
