Responsibilities
- Own platform architecture and technical direction for the cross-cutting foundations of GraphAware Hume.
- Define and evolve the Neo4j strategy, including testing releases and ecosystem tooling such as GDS and APOC, assessing changes, and planning migrations.
- Optimize Cypher queries and graph access patterns for latency, throughput, and scale.
- Provide technical guidance on graph architecture and mentor engineers without formal management authority.
- Partner with Product Managers to translate product goals into scalable technical roadmaps.
- Design secure, scalable access-control systems for mission-critical environments.
- Build APIs for intuitive interaction with complex graph data.
- Orchestrate workflows for graph analytics, inference, and real-time insights.
- Drive consensus across engineering teams for large-scale architectural changes.
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend systems experience with large-scale, complex applications and cross-functional teams.
- Deep hands-on Neo4j expertise, including advanced Cypher optimization, profiling, and familiarity with GDS, APOC, and Neo4j drivers.
- Experience modeling real domains as property graphs and reasoning about nodes, relationships, labels, and properties as core design elements.
- A track record of leading architecture and technical direction for a team or product area.
- Proven ability to build consensus across engineering teams for major architectural changes.
- Fluency in Java or a strong JVM background applicable to a Java codebase.
- Understanding of secure, modular, scalable API development using Spring or similar frameworks.
- Experience with advanced debugging and profiling and with writing composable, maintainable, and testable code.
- Working knowledge of containerization with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment workflows.
- Practical knowledge of secure software design and common vulnerabilities such as OWASP.
- Preferred familiarity with knowledge graphs, GraphRAG, neo4j-graphrag, LangChain, LlamaIndex, graph algorithms, Kafka, distributed systems, large graph data model evolution, observability, and performance tuning.
- Comfort collaborating with remote teams through asynchronous communication practices.
Benefits
- Work on mission-critical graph intelligence systems that support law enforcement and analytical use cases.
- High autonomy from ideation through deployment in a non-micromanaged environment.
- Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and product thinkers across Europe and beyond.
- Opportunity to shape product direction and technical vision alongside a senior engineering team.
- Role available to candidates located in the UK, Czechia, or Italy.
- Inclusive, diverse, and equitable workplace focused on professional development and career-defining experiences.
