Base Salary
$170k - $196k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead analysis and design of complex, scalable, secure software systems aligned with NIH/NLM research objectives.
- Lead all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, architecture, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Develop and maintain applications across Linux, Windows, macOS, Android, and web-based platforms.
- Collaborate with researchers, data scientists, clinicians, and IT professionals on biomedical research, clinical analytics, and public health software.
- Refactor and optimize systems for performance, reliability, scalability, usability, and cross-platform compatibility.
- Implement secure coding, vulnerability assessment, FISMA and FedRAMP compliance, Section 508 accessibility, and related SSP and ATO documentation.
- Create architecture diagrams, API references, user manuals, training materials, and knowledge-base content.
- Support onboarding and knowledge sharing across the development team.
Requirements
- High school diploma and 15 years of relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience equivalent to nine years.
- Experience leading full-lifecycle software development.
- Proficiency with languages such as C++, Python, Java, JavaScript, R, and Bash or other scripting languages.
- Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Elasticsearch.
- Familiarity with Jupyter Notebooks, GitHub, GitLab, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and best practices.
- Experience in Agile/Scrum development environments.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability and willingness to work onsite multiple days per week in Bethesda, Maryland.
- Preferred qualifications include biomedical, clinical, or scientific computing experience; AI/ML framework experience; Docker and Kubernetes knowledge; Section 508 expertise; NIH/NLM experience; and additional experience or an advanced degree.
