Responsibilities
- Design and implement vehicle control architecture for Genie’s industrial equipment.
- Develop scalable, real-time control solutions for mobile robots, automotive systems, or heavy machinery.
- Implement ros2_control hardware interfaces, ROS2 nodes, firmware, and drivers for custom hardware.
- Develop closed-loop PID, MPC, and LQR control algorithms for vehicle dynamics and multi-DOF systems.
- Integrate IMUs, encoders, LiDAR, GPS, and pressure transducers and create vehicle state estimates through sensor fusion.
- Model and control non-linear hydraulic systems, including valves, pumps, and cylinders.
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and own significant technical deliverables.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a similar field.
- Strong understanding of classical and modern control theory, vehicle kinematics, and vehicle dynamics.
- Proven ROS2 experience, particularly with ros2_control, hardware interfaces, and node lifecycle management.
- Experience contributing to distributed control architectures for mobile robots, automotive systems, or heavy machinery.
- Hands-on experience with CAN bus using J1939 or CANopen, I2C, SPI, and RS485.
- Strong real-time C++ skills, including C++20 or C++23, for constrained embedded environments.
- Preferred experience with electro-hydraulic control in heavy machinery, agriculture, or construction equipment.
- Preferred knowledge of functional safety standards or safety-critical RTOS implementations.
- Preferred experience with URDF, Gazebo, Isaac Sim, real-time microcontrollers, application processors, and Yocto Linux.
