Responsibilities
- Design, build, maintain, and operate secure, scalable backend services and APIs.
- Deliver complex projects end to end, from technical design through implementation, testing, rollout, and production iteration.
- Build event-driven and asynchronous workflows using Kafka and queue-based systems.
- Own service reliability through monitoring, logging, alerting, incident response, and post-incident improvements.
- Partner with Infrastructure/SRE to operate systems on AWS, including compute, networking, storage, and deployment patterns.
- Define data access patterns across SQL and NoSQL databases, including migrations and performance tuning.
- Implement caching strategies using Redis or Memcached to reduce latency and manage load.
- Improve code quality through reviews, documentation, testing standards, and operational readiness.
- Provide technical guidance, participate in design reviews, and mentor other engineers.
Requirements
- 10+ years of backend engineering experience building and operating production systems with Java and Spring Boot.
- Strong fundamentals in system design, API design, data modeling, and maintainable, well-tested code.
- Experience with AWS and common infrastructure components such as networking, compute, storage, and managed services.
- Strong experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL and NoSQL systems such as DynamoDB, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
- Hands-on experience with Kafka and message or queue systems such as SQS or RabbitMQ, including delivery semantics and failure handling.
- Practical knowledge of caching patterns and cache invalidation using Redis or Memcached.
- Strong observability practices, including structured logging, metrics, tracing, and familiarity with logging and monitoring tools.
- A degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Knowledge of Decentralized Identity, IAM, OAuth, or OIDC is preferred.
- Experience with Data Lake and Spark for large-scale ETL, batch processing, or analytics pipelines is preferred.
- Experience with privacy and security practices, including PII handling, encryption, retention policies, and audit logging, is preferred.
- Experience with capacity planning, load testing, bottleneck analysis, and scaling systems under cost and performance constraints is preferred.
