Responsibilities
- Build and ship Android client features for WhatsApp with emphasis on performance, reliability, and memory footprint.
- Own Android client architecture for payments, commerce, and other WhatsApp Services experiences.
- Partner with server and platform teams on API design.
- Solve complex technical problems and identify technologies for previously intractable challenges.
- Set technical direction across multiple teams and own architecture for a major product area.
- Lead organization-wide initiatives and resolve ambiguity in product and technical approaches.
- Drive engineering standards, quality, and craft across the pillar.
- Mentor senior engineers and influence product, design, data science, operations, legal, compliance, and payments partners.
- Partner with local operations and compliance stakeholders to meet Brazilian reliability and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 12+ years of programming experience in a relevant language, or 8+ years of experience with a PhD.
- Experience communicating and working across functions to drive solutions.
- Experience using data and analysis to explain technical problems and provide detailed feedback and solutions.
- Experience driving large cross-functional or industry-wide engineering efforts.
- Track record of planning multi-year roadmaps connecting short-term projects to a long-term mission.
- Experience mentoring and influencing executive stakeholders across organizations.
- Preferred: experience building Android applications with Java or Kotlin and the Android SDK.
- Preferred: experience with multithreading, mobile memory management, low-end devices, constrained networks, and app-size optimization.
- Preferred: experience with Brazilian payments, Pix, payment systems at scale, monetization, commerce, AI/ML products, or Brazil-based consumer technology or fintech companies.
- Preferred: experience establishing technical foundations for zero-to-one organizations, setting global multi-market strategy, and leading distributed teams.
- Preferred: familiarity with messaging platforms, mobile-first consumer products, super-apps, or founder-led products.
- Preferred: experience integrating AI tools, implementing responsible AI practices, and developing skills in prompt/context engineering or agent orchestration.
