Responsibilities
- Conduct targeted engagements with development teams to improve safe and rapid release cadence and vulnerability resolution.
- Build automated test suites, including locally runnable tests and deployment smoke tests, and integrate and mask test data.
- Upgrade runtimes, open-source libraries, dependencies, base images, operating systems, and other installed software while implementing processes for continuous updates.
- Containerize applications and improve source control, branch management, code review, security patterns, secrets management, authentication, and authorization.
- Simplify and automate application deployments, including database changes with Liquibase and installed software with Ansible.
- Introduce observability patterns, improve exception handling and logging, and implement resilient hot-hot cross-datacenter deployment topologies.
- Coordinate the activities of the regionally deployed Forward Deployed Engineer team.
- Lead by example as a hands-on practitioner, with the position approximately 70% coding and configuration.
Requirements
- Several years of experience with Test-Driven Development using multiple test frameworks and strong knowledge of automation-testing approaches.
- Proficiency in JVM languages, with TypeScript experience optional, and excellent coding skills.
- Strong understanding of safe practices for critical systems, deployment architecture, observability, secure coding, and continuous integration and deployment systems.
- Competence with Docker, OpenShift, Red Hat Linux, Gradle, Maven, npm, and AI-assisted coding; Spring and Ansible skills are advantageous.
- 12+ years of relevant experience, including application development experience.
- Experience in management and managing global technology teams.
- Working knowledge of industry practices and standards with clear and concise written and verbal communication.
- Bachelor’s or university degree, or equivalent experience; a master’s degree is preferred.
