Senior Software Engineer, Distributed Simulation (C++)
Anduril IndustriesBase Salary
$191k - $253k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build C++ services that federate independent simulators into a shared simulated world with time management, entity ownership, lifecycle management, and state distribution.
- Own protocol encoding and decoding, multicast and unicast transport, and interoperability across simulators from different teams and vendors.
- Build deterministic and reproducible simulation capabilities, including time control, replay, and divergence instrumentation.
- Develop scenario and laydown authoring tools plus searchable, reusable content and resource catalogs.
- Profile and optimize performance, memory allocation, copying, latency, and throughput for simulations with hundreds to thousands of entities.
- Integrate the simulation layer with Go services, gRPC/protobuf APIs, and the team’s web UI.
- Set technical direction, make architectural decisions, write design documents, conduct code reviews, and mentor growing teams.
- Work with internal teams and external customers to onboard simulators, models, and test workflows, and create documentation, reference integrations, and SDKs to reduce future onboarding effort.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Deep production experience with modern C++17 or newer, including ownership and lifetime, move semantics, templates, and the standard library.
- Experience building networked, concurrent, or real-time C++ systems with multithreading, synchronization, and failure-mode analysis.
- Strong systems fundamentals including memory layout, allocation behavior, cache effects, sockets, UDP/TCP, serialization, and Linux.
- Demonstrated ability to profile and optimize production systems and reason quantitatively about latency and throughput.
- Experience owning ambiguous, cross-cutting projects end-to-end and driving them to production.
- Experience working directly with engineering teams that consume software you build, including integration, unblocking, and feedback-driven iteration.
- Ability to work in at least one additional language alongside C++; the surrounding platform uses Go and TypeScript.
- Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to write evaluable design documents.
- Computer Science degree or equivalent industry experience.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
- Preferred experience includes distributed simulation and interoperability standards such as DIS, IEEE 1278, HLA/RTI, IEEE 1516, or TENA.
- Preferred experience includes simulation engines, physics or flight dynamics models, game engines, discrete-event or time-stepped simulation, software-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop systems, robotics simulation, or synthetic environments.
- Preferred experience includes deterministic distributed systems, logical clocks, lockstep execution, record and replay, gRPC/protobuf, binary protocols, schema evolution, Kubernetes, Bazel, Buck, Nix, KubeVirt, qemu, GPU programming, rendering, geospatial or terrain data, developer tooling, or platform products.
Benefits
- Full-time employees receive comprehensive competitive benefits available at little to no cost, with additional equity grants included in the majority of full-time offers.
