Responsibilities
- Research emerging AI/ML developments, particularly LLMs, and identify opportunities relevant to Bandwidth’s communications domain.
- Design, build, test, and demonstrate proof-of-concepts and prototypes for AI-powered features and services.
- Implement and integrate AI/ML models, including LLM-based models, into potential future offerings.
- Experiment with prompting strategies, RAG, agentic systems, and other AI techniques.
- Evaluate new AI tools, models, and methodologies and communicate research findings and experiment results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate within a small, cross-functional R&D team and contribute across a T-shaped skill set.
- Use LLM-powered development tools to accelerate experimentation and prototyping.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, ML, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on expertise in AI and ML, with deep knowledge in at least one domain such as NLP, LLMs, or speech recognition.
- Typically 3+ years of experience designing, building, and evaluating AI/ML models and systems.
- Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with common ML libraries and frameworks.
- Practical understanding of LLMs, RAG, prompting techniques, and applications built on foundational LLMs through APIs or open-source models.
- Experience using LLM-powered IDEs or coding assistants and working effectively in collaborative, fast-moving environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, curiosity, and ability to navigate ambiguity.
- Must be able to work full-time from Bandwidth’s Raleigh, North Carolina headquarters.
- Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree or PhD, LLM training or fine-tuning, custom evaluation benchmarks, advanced AI architectures, MLOps, cloud ML platforms, AI developer and agentic frameworks, and AI/ML research, publications, or open-source contributions.
