Responsibilities
- Own the full request path from users to services, including CDN configuration, TLS termination, load-balancing policy, and failover behavior.
- Manage and optimize anycast VIPs, L7 proxies, service mesh components, and internet-facing traffic infrastructure at very large scale.
- Move proxy and CDN configuration into code with review, testing, and staged rollouts.
- Lead cross-layer investigations from anycast withdrawals through misbehaving upstreams.
- Plan traffic-tier capacity, drain procedures, and resilience for POP or data-center failures.
- Participate in on-call rotation, lead incident response, and convert post-mortems into permanent traffic-layer fixes.
- Build operational tooling using modern coding practices beyond scripting.
Requirements
- 5+ years running production internet-facing traffic infrastructure at very large scale.
- Deep understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, anycast, ECMP, DNS-based traffic steering, TCP, TLS, HTTP/2, and HTTP/3.
- Hands-on production ownership of L7 proxies such as Nginx, HAProxy, or Envoy/Istio, including configuration at scale and performance tuning.
- Production experience with a commercial CDN such as Fastly, Cloudflare, Akamai, or CloudFront, including edge logic, cache policy, and origin protection.
- Fluency in Linux networking internals and packet-level diagnosis using tools and technologies such as tcpdump, conntrack, nftables, and iptables.
- Coding ability sufficient to build tooling rather than only edit configuration files.
- Deep Kubernetes networking knowledge, including CNI internals, kube-proxy, ingress, and east-west traffic policy.
- Background in traffic observability, flow telemetry, real-user monitoring, or synthetic probing across regions is preferred.
