Responsibilities
- Build models of satellite constellations, including orbit propagation, cluster geometry, attitude, pointing, antenna beams, access windows, spacing, and timing variables.
- Model emitters and operational scenarios using real captures and synthetic generation, including antenna patterns, scan behavior, modes, and duty cycles.
- Generate propagated synthetic signals and per-satellite I/Q data with path loss, delay, Doppler, and low-band ionosphere effects.
- Maintain a protected truth ledger and implement association and scoring for detection rate, false-alarm rate, geolocation accuracy, and latency.
- Provide geometry and timing inputs to RF channel simulators and playback hardware for hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Develop a versioned, tested, documented, reproducible simulation platform with configuration management, provenance, and an interface for non-authors.
- Conduct capacity, revisit, performance, and architecture studies for payload, product, sales, and engineering teams.
Requirements
- Strong Python software engineering skills, including clean architecture, version control, testing, code review, and packaging; experience with a compiled language is desirable.
- Experience building and validating a simulation or model of a physical system used by others, including comparison with measurements or real data.
- Experience with numerical and scientific computing, including NumPy, SciPy or equivalent, vectorization, and performance awareness.
- Working knowledge of at least one of orbital mechanics and access computation, RF link budgets and propagation, or signal processing.
- Experience making results reproducible through seeds, configuration management, and data provenance.
- Clear written and spoken English.
- Preferred experience includes constellation, mission, or system-level modeling and simulation with STK, Orekit, GMAT, Basilisk, or an in-house framework.
- Radar, electronic warfare, emitter modeling, scenario generation, order-of-battle generation, TDOA/FDOA/AoA geolocation, or estimation theory experience is advantageous.
- Experience with synthetic I/Q generation, GPU acceleration, real-time systems, hardware-in-the-loop interfaces, cloud-native deployment, containers, workflow orchestration, or data stores for large runs is advantageous.
- Eligibility for national security clearance is an advantage.
