Responsibilities
- Scope and lead complex, multi-month infrastructure projects from ambiguous beginnings through production deployment.
- Make architectural decisions that shape foundational systems used by other engineers and teams.
- Drive alignment on technical direction across teams and ambiguous problem spaces.
- Partner with research and product teams to translate infrastructure and compute needs into technical designs.
- Own the reliability, scalability, and security of systems as usage and complexity grow.
- Set technical strategy and standards for the infrastructure team.
- Build and improve incident response, postmortem, and on-call processes.
- Mentor engineers and raise the team’s technical bar.
Requirements
- Production experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems or infrastructure.
- Demonstrated ability to independently scope and deliver complex, ambiguous, multi-month technical projects.
- Experience making architectural decisions adopted by other engineers and teams.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Rust, Go, or Java.
- Experience with modern cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code, on AWS and/or GCP.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience driving alignment across teams or stakeholders.
- Preferred: 10+ years of software engineering experience, excluding internships.
- Preferred: experience with GPUs, TPUs, Trainium, NCCL, Linux kernel tuning, eBPF, security or privacy engineering, and technical leadership or mentorship.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience in a relevant field.
