Responsibilities
- Write and maintain C++ software for 5G NR-NTN upper-layer and core-interface protocols, including PDCP, eGTP-U/C, XnAP, and NGAP.
- Implement and contribute to NTN-specific PDCP adaptations, eGTP-U N3 tunnelling, Xn procedures, and NGAP N2 procedures.
- Build test cases, simulation harnesses, and automation to validate interface behavior against 3GPP specifications.
- Support Core Network and MNO integration teams in validating NGAP procedures against AMF implementations.
- Validate Xn, N2, and N3 interfaces end-to-end across gNB-CU-CP, gNB-CU-UP, and core-network elements.
- Debug protocol issues using Wireshark, tcpdump, custom dissectors, GDB, packet captures, and log analysis.
- Read 3GPP specifications and translate them into software requirements with guidance from systems engineers.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, technical documentation, and the use of AI coding assistants.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Wireless Communications, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- Strong C++ programming ability with experience in memory management, pointers or references, and the standard library.
- Working knowledge of networking and communications fundamentals, including protocol stacks, IP, UDP/TCP, tunnelling, and packet-based signalling.
- Familiarity with 5G or LTE architecture, including RAN versus core, control versus user plane, and handovers.
- Comfort working in Linux and with Git.
- Curiosity, persistence, clear communication, and willingness to work from technical specifications.
- Preferred experience includes telecom protocol development, core networks, open-source RAN/core projects, PDCP, GTP tunnelling, 5G N2/N3 interfaces, AMF/UPF roles, ASN.1, state machines, packet analysis, Python, or multithreaded software.
- Internship, thesis, research, or prior professional experience is a plus but not required.
